Born and raised through high school in Chile, Ricardo Cuevas migrated to The U.S. in 1988, event and year which mark the beginning of his songwriting.  Music was probably the earliest artistic incentive he was exposed to. Both his parents sang in the Choir of the University of Chile, where his mother also taught Voice Technique. His father was a folkloric researcher and performer, who belonged to Cuncumén, ensemble that counted Victor Jara among its members at one point, and the first to introduce Chilean folkloric music to the rest of the world.  During his adolescence, the songs of Cuban composer and singer Silvio Rodriguez, one of the founders of the Nueva Trova movement, were Ricardo’s first exposure to the style of songwriting that now characterizes his work; poetic statements that praise the best qualities of men and remind us we are all capable of them, and denounce the errors of our ways that disrupt balance and harmony, and that share a guiding energy of one of the strongest forces in the universe: Love.  Silvios’s songs became a lasting influence, and opened the door of Ricardo’s interest in so many other icons of this genre that keep inspiring him; Violeta Parra, Victor Jara, Joan Manuel Serrat, and Mercedes Sosa to name a few.  Ricardo’s artistic birth was a need for self expression in the new world he came to inhabit, and of which he new nothing, not even the language.  A self-taught guitar player and composer, Ricardo draws his inspiration from the conflicts and balance of daily life, and from the lessons learned from illuminated people that have crossed his path.  With a rhythmic character inspired by South American folklore, and particularly by the beats and structures of the historic popular song of his land of origin, Ricardo’s music breathes new life into an ancient musical style, incorporating thought-provoking lyrics that reflect his experiences among men and their societies, in New York City where he resides, as well as the rest of the world.

 Nacido y criado en Chile, donde completó su educación secundaria, Ricardo emigró a los EEUU en 1988, suceso y año que marcan su comienzo como compositor. La Música fue probablemente el primer incentivo artístico al que estuvo expuesto. Sus padres cantaban en el Coro de la Universidad de Chile, donde su madre además enseñaba técnicas de canto. Su padre fue investigador y artista folclórico integrante de Cuncumén, grupo que en un tiempo contó a Víctor Jara como uno de sus integrantes, y la primera agrupación que difundiera la música folklórica Chilena al resto del mundo. Durante su adolescencia, las canciones del compositor Cubano Silvio Rodríguez, uno de los fundadores del movimiento musical Nueva Trova, fueron la primera muestra para Ricardo del estilo que hoy caracteriza su trabajo; declaraciones poéticas que alaban las mejores cualidades de los hombres y nos recuerdan que todos somos capaces de ellas, y denuncian los errores de nuestro camino que quiebran el balance y la armonía, y que tienen en común el ser guiadas por una de las mayores fuerzas del universo: el Amor. El trabajo de Silvio fue para Ricardo una influencia duradera, y abrió la puerta a su interés en tantos otros íconos de éste género musical que lo siguen inspirando; Violeta Parra, Víctor Jara, Joan Manuel Serrat, y Mercedes Sosa entre otros. El nacimiento artístico de Ricardo fue una necesidad de autoexpresión en el nuevo mundo que llegaba a habitar, y del cual no conocía nada, ni siquiera el lenguaje. Guitarrista y compositor autodidacta, Ricardo encuentra su inspiración en los conflictos y el balance de la vida cotidiana, y en las lecciones aprendidas de seres iluminados que han cruzado su camino. Con un carácter rítmico inspirado por el folklore sudamericano, y particularmente por las estructuras y acentos de la histórica música popular de su tierra de origen, sus canciones le respiran nueva vida a un estilo musical milenario, incorporando letras que provocan nuestro pensar, y que reflejan su experiencia entre los hombres y sus sociedades, en Nueva York, donde reside, así también como en el resto del mundo.
