At the age of 16, Rodrigo Bermúdez was already playing with friends in the streets of Valparaiso. He made his first steps with the quena and the recorder, and then came the transverse flute. He studied  Pedagogy of Musical Education en the University of Chile in Valparaiso, and learned music theory from the prestigious drummer Carlos Figueroa. Alejandro ‘Chupete’ Vásquez, his roommate at the time, introduced him to the saxophone as a way of playing out at night, which resulted in him playing a couple of seasons in the bohemia Talquina. He went on to join various bands, playing rock, folklore and religious music in La Tirana and Valparaiso. He also played danceable music in clubs and parties, was one of the founding members of the group Bandalismo, who opened for Los Jaivas various times: in the Santa Laura stadium in Santiago, in the Sausalito stadium in Viña del Mar, and the Playa Ancha stadium of Valparaiso. He was part of the Banda del Barón/Chamber’s Chungo,  Los Santo Domingo, and Los Baia with several seasons in the hotel Miramar in Viña del Mar, of Alma Urbana with whom he recorded 6 songs and played with Waldemar Parra in pubs and bars in Valparaiso (L’Eau de Vie, Valparaiso Eterno etc). He recorded with Eugenio Gonzalez (El Tiquitiqui). Con Oscar Olivares (accordionist of the duet Los Perlas) he recorded a record of cuecas in the early 80s. He came to NY in ’92, continued his musical journey, re-linking with friends from Chile, and in the past 5 years built a studio where Los Chamanes rehearse, as well as Yayo Serka (Lila Down and Claudia Acuña’s drummer), and hub of a community of Southamerican musicians and artists. Recently Rodrigo played in the tribute event for Mercedes Sosa at the Lincoln Center, accompanying Eva Ayllón, León Gieco, El Sabalero, Guadalupe Pineda and El Bahiano amongst others.

 Rodrigo Bermúdez tocaba ya a los 16 con amigos en las calles en Valparaíso. Empezó sus primeros pasos con la quena y la flauta dulce, después vendría la flauta traversa. Estudió Pedagogía en Educación Musical en la Universidad de Chile en Valparaíso, y aprendió teoría del prestigiado baterista Carlos Figueroa. Alejandro ‘Chupete’ Vásquez, con quien compartía el techo le introdujo al saxo alto con el propósito de trabajar en el ambiente nocturno, lo cual resultó tocando en un par de temporadas en la Bohemia Talquina. Después integró bandas de rock, de folklore, de música religiosa en La Tirana y Valparaíso. Tocaba música bailable en boîtes y fiestas. Integrante fundador  del grupo la Bandalismo, quienes abrieron a Los Jaivas varias veces: en el estadio Santa Laura de Santiago, en el estadio Sausalito de Viña del Mar y estadio Playa Ancha de Valparaíso. Fue integrante de la Banda del Barón/Chamber’s Chungo, de Los Santo Domingo, de Los Baia con varias temporadas presentándose en el hotel Miramar de Viña del Mar, de Alma Urbana con quienes grabaron 6 canciones y tocaba con Waldemar Parra en pubs y bares de Valparaíso (L’Eau de Vie, Valparaíso Eterno etc.). Grabó con Eugenio González (el Tiquitiqui). Con Oscar Olivares (el acordeonista del dúo Los Perlas) grabó un disco de cuecas choras a principio de los 80s. Vino a NY en el 92, siguió su camino musical, encontrándose con amigos de Chile y en los últimos 5 años construyó un estudio donde practican Los Chamanes, el baterista Yayo Serka (de Lila Downs y Claudia Acuña), donde se junta una comunidad de músicos y artistas Sudamericanos. Últimamente, tocó en el tributo para Mercedes Sosa en el Lincoln Center acompañando a Eva Ayllón, León Gieco, El Sabalero, Guadalupe Pineda y El Bahiano entre otros.
